Great Hotel branding video: Peninsula

Peninsula Hong Kong: Doing it right on Social Media
Recently I've been looking at how hotels use Social Media for marketing, developing brand loyalty and just being seen.

The Peninsula, one of the best in Hong Kong, has expanded over the past few decades while tying its original image of service, quality and brand in Hong Kong. It is considered Hong Kong's most famous hotel and most prestigious. It's been featured in Hong Kong tourism videos and even made its way into "The Man with the Golden Gun."

They have a fantastic Social Media presence building not only local loyalty but cross brand loyalty through their posts on Facebook and through using other medium.

Today they posted a video called "Peninsula Moments" tied directly to a larger marketing campaign. It shows how a hotel can use social media to promote themselves without spending a billion dollars on ad buys. This probably cost a bit but putting on their facebook page and youtube was free.

What makes it great is that it's brilliantly made, shows their services, attention to detail, their unique brand (Peninsula Green fleet of cars) dedication to their work and how they take care of guests - all kinds of guests. It even has a bit of emotion at the end where the young attendant waves goodbye to the guest getting off the helicopter. The attendent looks as if he is saying goodbye to a friend. It tugged at me.

On their various Facebook pages, Peninsula doesn't just focus on the business traveler, wedding couple, or regular traveler but each one. The cover photos reflect an aspect of brand and guest types. The Hong Kong Peninsula has photos of young children at a New Year celebration - the family. Tokyo shows some modernism at dinner - the local. Peninsula Chicago has a playful photo of a woman ice skating - community and youth. Peninsula Bangkok has a beautiful view of Wat Arun -the tourist. Peninsula Beverly Hills is all about class in a warm environment - the older traveler. The New York Peninsula cover photo is about luxury - the business traveler.

I'd have to say that they the best aspect is that they cross promote each other's properties. This shows unity across properties and the brand.

Too often hotels miss the mark on cross by telling their marketing staff to "just make a page and promote us" but the cross branding and brand unity is missing.

Peninsula not only a great hotel with the highest standards but also the highest standards and practices in social media. This makes me want to stay there.

Way to go Peninsula!
